Dana Balter is a professor and community organizer, and has served as the Director of Education and the Director of Marketing and Communications at a nonprofit organization supporting adults with cognitive disabilities. She draws from these varied experiences to fight for affordable healthcare for all, high quality education for every child, economic and racial justice, and the protection of the Earth’s resources. With the support of local grassroots progressives, she won an upset primary victory over a candidate hand-picked by the political establishment in Washington D.C.
“I faced the threat of not being able to find insurance because of a pre-existing condition; the fear of financial ruin because of healthcare costs; and the obstacles that make accessing our public social service supports so difficult. I truly understand the kinds of battles that families are fighting every day and the need for humane government policies that can help them. It was sheer stubborn determination that brought me through and I will put that same determination to work for you. Your struggles will become my mission and together we will be unstoppable.”
