Jose Vasquez, Sr., a name that echoes with pride and bravery, served his country with unwavering commitment and valor. Stationed in Vietnam, he donned the uniform of the 101st Airborne, undertaking two arduous tours of duty. His courageous spirit was tested beyond the battlefield when the insidious presence of agent orange infiltrated his surroundings. He bid us farewell in 2020.

Who proudly served with the US Army. His family honors Cicero Cuington's memory by striving to embody the qualities that made him an extraordinary soldier and an exceptional human being.

BM3 Travis Obendorf, USCG

We honor his incredible bravery and selflessness. His sacrifice will forever be etched in our memories. His actions exemplify the US Coast Guard's noble traditions, the essence of service, and its core principles. In the face of danger, he fearlessly plunged into the treacherous waters off the coast of Alaska, driven by a steadfast commitment to saving lives — we later learned of the fatal head injuries he sustained during that fateful rescue. His spirit lives on.

Maj. Adrianna Vorderbruggen, Air Force

She was a remarkable individual who embodied courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to her country. We remember her not only for her honorable service in the military but also for her outstanding advocacy in the pursuit of equality.

Maj. Vorderbruggen's indomitable spirit and tireless efforts were dedicated to the repeal of the discriminatory policy known as "Don't Ask Don't Tell." She invested years of her life fighting for the rights of gay troops, challenging the demanding silence they were forced to endure. Her unwavering belief in the power of authenticity and the principles of equality drove her to dismantle barriers, fostering an inclusive environment for all who serve.

Thomas A. Williams, USMC

Thomas exemplified the very essence of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his service to our nation. As a Marine, he dedicated himself to a higher purpose, embracing the call to protect and defend the values we hold dear. Walter Sochinski was a true hero—a dedicated military servicemember who selflessly served his country with unwavering courage and honor. He possessed an unwavering commitment to protecting the freedoms we hold dear, demonstrating his unwavering loyalty to the values that define us as a nation.

Isadore (Bo) Rubin

Bo fought in the Mediterranean theater in WWII. During his time as a soldier, the government held a contest for all enlisted personnel, asking them to write an essay on “What Democracy Means to Me”. Bo’s piece speaking to the virtues of democracy amidst the ongoing fight against fascism in WWII won the contest among all enlisted personnel. May his courage and commitment to democracy and the values we hold dear continue to inspire us.

Pvt. Taylor Marks

On the fateful day of 28th August 2009, in Iraq, a valiant soul was taken from us. An unwavering pillar of strength and courage, Pvt. Taylor Marks served dutifully in the Oregon Army National Guard, belonging to the esteemed 41st Infantry Brigade and the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary).

Pfc. Barry Winchell

A young soul who left this world far too soon. In the late 1990s, within the walls of Fort Campbell, Pfc. Winchell was murdered by fellow soldiers in a clear hate crime, ripping away a promising life that held dreams and aspirations because of senseless homophobia. Through his untimely demise, Pfc. Winchell has become a symbol of the profound impact hatred and intolerance can have on the lives of individuals.

Douglas Millett, US Navy

In the hallowed halls of history, amidst the countless tales of valor and sacrifice, there stands a name that echoes through time, etched in the annals of heroism: Douglas Millett. His unwavering commitment to duty, resilience in the face of adversity, and indomitable spirit have left an indelible mark on our souls. Today, we celebrate the essence of his character.

Pat Tillman, US ARMY

We remember the life and honor the memory of a true American hero. We all knew Pat as the formidable safety of the Arizona Cardinals, where he effortlessly commanded the field and won the hearts of fans nationwide.

In the wake of the devastating terrorist attacks of September 11, Pat made a superb choice. Forgoing a lucrative multi-million-dollar contract, he answered the call of duty that resonated within him and enlisted in the US Army alongside his brother Kevin.

Then came that fateful day, April 22, 2004, when tragedy struck. While serving in Afghanistan, Pat, aged only 27, was taken from us by a devastating act of friendly fire. Throughout his service, Pat embodied the true spirit of selflessness. He was not motivated by personal gain or accolades but by an unwavering commitment to protecting our cherished freedoms.

James H. Cartwright, Army

His unwavering commitment to the Army was an inspiration to all who knew him. Through his selfless service and dedication, he embodied the very essence of what it means to be a soldier. James demonstrated courage in the face of adversity, resilience in the midst of challenges, and a sense of duty that knew no bounds. His unwavering loyalty to his comrades and to the principles he held dear was a testament to his character.
