Clyde Gunter (he/him)

Clyde Gunter serves as the Social Media Lead for Common Defense, leveraging his uniquely extensive experience in social justice communications, broadcast television, and operational intelligence. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Clyde dedicated five years of service (2013-2018) as an Operations Intelligence Specialist onboard three esteemed naval warships located in Sasebo, Japan, where he served three years, and San Diego, California, when he completed his final two years of service. He received numerous accolades during his tenure for his exceptional ability to swiftly gather, process, analyze, and disseminate high-level and classified information.

Fuelled by a burning curiosity for a career in media, Clyde sought to expand his skill set further upon completing his naval contract. Relocating to New York City, he pursued his passion for storytelling by studying Broadcast Journalism and Documentary Filmmaking at the New York Film Academy. After his studies, Clyde worked for POV on PBS, Spectrum News NY1, and more notably, Disney’s sports media giant, ESPN, and Color Of Change, the nation's largest online racial justice organization. As the Social Lead for Common Defense, Clyde expertly combines his military background with his media expertise, offering a uniquely insightful perspective to his role.

Clyde is particularly passionate about social justice and veteran affairs, specifically as they pertain to minority veterans. He is a founding Military Veterans in Journalism member and is a brain trust member for The Black Veterans Project. Clyde’s day-to-day goal is to constantly utilize his skill set to communicate and amplify campaigns and initiatives that affect us all as citizens.
