Common Defense Celebrates Electoral Victories of Endorsed Candidates

WASHINGTON — Common Defense, the nation’s largest grassroots veterans’ organization, is proud to celebrate the electoral successes of their endorsed candidates in the 2022 Midterm Elections.

This year, Common Defense endorsed candidates who best represent our grassroots, progressive veteran community and will use their office to champion a policy agenda rooted in economic and social justice. Voters affirmed that they want to be represented by leaders who will protect our democracy. And across the nation, Americans showed up to the polls, mobilized by the issues that matter, including abortion access, gun control, and climate action. After Election Day, we celebrate hard-fought victories of the elected officials around the country who embody our values.

“Common Defense is proud to celebrate our endorsed candidates, who now have the opportunity to be champions for their constituents. Voters are invested in the future of our democratic institutions. Bucking historical trends in the face of brutal gerrymandering, the victories of these candidates are a triumph for a more equitable and representative democracy, where ‘liberty and justice’ truly is for all,” said Naveed Shah, Political Director at Common Defense. “While we take this moment to acknowledge how far we have come, we recognize that our work is really just beginning. We know margins in the 118th Congress will be slim. Common Defense’s members are committed to supporting our endorsed candidates-turned elected officials as they carry out the hard work of governing.”

Common Defense endorsed and supported candidates who reflect the progressive values of our 300,000 members regardless of whether the candidate served in the military themselves. Our work in 2022 to organize progressive veterans has resulted in the election of candidates who will work alongside us in the pursuit of ending Forever Wars, passing the Green New Deal and Medicare for All, and repairing the broken systems so that they can serve American families.
