WASHINGTON – On Thursday, June 8, news broke of former President Donald J. Trump's indictment in federal court in Florida for charges including willful retention of national defense secrets, obstruction of justice, and espionage.

Common Defense's Political Director, Naveed Shah, an Army veteran, released the following statement:

"As veterans, Common Defense's members know well the gravity of being charged with safeguarding state secrets and confidential information. As we have seen time and time again, when regular troops misuse classified material, they are held accountable. In a country governed by the Rule of Law, nobody is above the law, whether soldiers, officers, or even presidents."

As we react to this indictment, we reaffirm our commitment to standing against all forms of injustice and upholding the values we swore to protect as veterans. The pursuit of truth and justice, irrespective of an individual's political status, is essential in maintaining the integrity of our nation.

This moment is an opportunity for our nation to reaffirm its commitment to justice, transparency, and the rule of law. As veterans and citizens, we uphold these values, confident they will guide our nation toward a more equitable and representative democracy.
