Veterans Power America Joins Nevada in Urging EPA to Unblock Nevada Solar Projects

Veterans Power America joins the growing chorus urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to expedite approvals for renewable energy projects on federal lands. These delays are harming Nevada’s economy, threatening national security, and undermining military readiness in the region.

As Governor Lombardo emphasized in his letter to United States Secretary of Interior, Doug Burgum, Nevada’s economic future depends on the successful development of clean energy on federal lands. Solar projects in particular are essential to meeting the state’s growing electricity demand in a fast, affordable, and reliable way. These projects aren’t speculative, they are already sustaining Nevada’s economy and creating thousands of good-paying jobs.

“These delays aren’t just slowing down solar projects, they’re stalling what could be legitimate renewal for our communities and jeopardizing the economic and national security backbone of this region. Veterans account for nearly 10% of our nation’s energy workforce, and the livelihoods of Nevada’s veterans, along with the vitality of Fallon, Creech, and Nellis bases, depend on prompt action. The power these projects bring isn’t theoretical, it’s the difference between opportunity and uncertainty for veterans and families across the state. We urge the EPA to approve these projects now because our economy, our veterans, and our security can’t wait.” – Manuel Santamaria, Nevada VPA Organizer and US Army Veteran

The impacts of these delays extend beyond jobs. They threaten the military readiness of critical installations that aid our country’s national security such as Fallon Naval Air Station, Creech Air Force Base, and Nellis Air Force Base These bases rely on reliable power, and the energy produced by these projects could also serve military sites across the Southwest.

Secretary Burgum: The time for action is now. The economic future of Nevada and the security of our nation are at stake. Veterans Power America urges you to approve these projects immediately—for the sake of our economy, our veterans, and our national defense.
