Common Defense Endorses Four Veterans for Re-Election in Congress
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 27, 2024
WASHINGTON D.C. – Common Defense, the largest grassroots organization of progressive veterans in the country, representing nearly 400,000 members, is proud to endorse a strong slate of former service members now running for re-election in the U.S. House of Representatives. These candidates are committed to defending democracy and upholding the values that veterans like us fought to protect. They are relentless in their support for equality, reproductive freedom, and safeguarding the future of our nation from extremism.
The following Congressional candidates have earned our full support:
Jason Crow (CO-06)
Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06)
Pat Ryan (NY-18)
Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11)
“I'm proud to endorse my fellow veterans who continue to serve our country by standing up for truth and decency in Congress. They have proven themselves as a vital defense against the rise of MAGA extremism and are committed to making sure that congress works for the American people — especially for working families, and those whose rights are under attack. These leaders champion policies to protect reproductive rights, promote equality, and safeguard the future of our democracy and we're proud to support their campaigns,” said Naveed Shah, Political Director of Common Defense.
As veterans who have taken an oath to defend our country and its democratic principles, Common Defense is committed to mobilizing support for these candidates through grassroots organizing, voter engagement, and advocacy. Together, we will continue to fight for a Congress that upholds a democracy that works for all.

Common Defense Civic Engagement is a grassroots, veteran-led organization that was founded in 2016. We empower veterans to stand up for our communities against the rising tide of racism, hate, and violence, to organize against the entrenched powers that have rigged our economy, and to champion an equitable and representative democracy, where “liberty and justice” truly is for all. For too long, politicians from both political parties have attempted to use veterans as unwilling political props, and Common Defense serves as a home for veterans to organize and speak for themselves and support the candidates who truly share our values.
