FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 21, 2024
VETERANS PROGRESSIVE VETERANS BACK CONOR O’CALLAGHAN
ARIZONA – The veterans of Common Defense, the nation’s largest grassroots veterans organization, proudly endorse Conor O’Callaghan in his race to defeat MAGA extremist David Schweikert and properly represent Arizona’s 1st Congressional District in Congress. O’Callaghan is committed to protecting women’s rights and combating climate change, two issues the veterans of Common Defense strongly support.
"Truly honored to have the endorsement of Common Defense. My late grandfather was an Irish Army general and spent 3 decades as a UN Peacekeeper across 3 continents. At the peak of his career, he was the Force Commander for the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon, keeping peace between Israelis and Palestinians. He would be incredibly proud of this endorsement. My father also spent years working at a VA hospital and I am honored to continue my family’s legacy of advocating for troops and veterans, both in AZ-01 and around the world." - Conor O’Callaghan
“Veterans recognize leadership when we see it. Conor has distinguished himself in a crowded race by proving himself as a scholar, businessman, and fighter. AZ-01 doesn’t just deserve ‘better than Schweikert,’ we deserve the best. O’Callaghan has earned the trust and support of our Veteran Community.” – Derek Duba, Army veteran, AZ Lead Organizer for Common Defense
Common Defense is dedicated to ensuring that the voices of veterans are heard in the political process, advocating for policies that support and uplift those who have served. O’Callaghan’s commitment to veterans' issues and his unique connection to the military community make him a standout candidate for the organization’s support.

Common Defense Civic Engagement is a grassroots, veteran-led organization that was founded in 2016. We empower veterans to stand up for our communities against the rising tide of racism, hate, and violence, to organize against the entrenched powers that have rigged our economy, and to champion an equitable and representative democracy, where “liberty and justice” truly is for all. For too long, politicians from both political parties have attempted to use veterans as unwilling political props, and Common Defense serves as a home for veterans to organize and speak for themselves and support the candidates who truly share our values.
